Community Business Highlight: Buck Box

Every day people move out of rented homes and nervously anticipate the landlord's answer to the most important question: am I getting my security deposit back? Young entrepreneur Moe Salama founded his company, Buck, to assure that the answer to that question is always yes.

Salama’s idea for his company is one of those simple but brilliant ones, the kind that makes you wonder how no one has thought of it before. The Buckbox that Salama sells from his website is a move out kit that provides small amounts of home improvement supplies that helps assure you leave your rented space in great condition with little waste in the process.

Buck was founded in November 2016 and launched its first product in June 2017.

“Last summer, I was building a palette wall in my bedroom. I had the help of my cousin who is an experienced contractor, but I still found myself running back-and-forth to the hardware store no less than nine times, picking up all kinds of special tools and materials just for this one simple job, and scrambling to figure out just how to get it done,” explained Salama of how he thought of this idea.

“There was a better solution: bundling together all the materials, tools, and a dummy-proof step-by-step guide that allows everybody to do-it-themselves,” exclaimed Salama.

In addition to supplies, Buckbox comes with informative and helpful instructions on how to get the job done as efficiently and effectively as possible.

In June 2017, Moe graduated from Drexel University in Philadelphia with a degree in Entrepreneurship. Buck is currently located in an incubator at Drexel University, and is moving to New York very soon.

Moe uses many forms of social media to get the word out about his innovative company. From Facebook and Twitter to Instagram and Snapchat and everywhere in between, Buck keeps relevant throughout.

Salama is targeting urban dwelling millennial renters that are living in big dense cities like New York, Boston, and Philadelphia.

“Our customers love the product; it provides them with a cheap, convenient, and efficient way to save their security deposits,” said Moe on the feedback he’s received thus far for his product.

The Buckbox Move Out Kit addresses all four of the major problems that most renters face during the move out process: damaged walls, stained carpets, scratched wood floors, and stained and grimy walls and surfaces.

Buck is designed and packed here in the USA from the highest quality materials, using natural materials whenever possible such as their carpet cleaning solution and wood repair oil. Buck is a new approach to the home improvement process, breaking into the up and coming DIY (do it yourself) market rather than the vast and confusing Hardware market.

“The thing I love most about it is the immense feeling of accomplishment that people get when they do a job by themselves,” explained Moe of his favorite attribute of his creation, “The research really backs up this notion, showing that it’s one of the main reasons that DIY-ers do DIY. We believe that by giving people the tools to take control of their living space, we can give them the power to take control of the world around them.”
