Community Business Highlight: The Amazon Jungle Guide

When consumers think of Amazon, they think of purchasing and returning products with ease and convenience. When entrepreneurs and business owners think of selling on Amazon, they think of a jungle filled with confusing processes that need to be gone through in order to feature their products on the site.

As you may or may not know, Amazon is one of the leading e-commerce websites in the world. Having the opportunity to sell on this website can be a game changer for any and all businesses when executed correctly.

Luckily, Alan Horowitz has made it his life’s mission to assist individuals and companies in this exact area. His cleverly titled company is called MasterofE.com and he’s happy to help anyone in need of Amazon-themed advice and guidance.

Horowitz got into the tech industry way before ‘internet’ and ‘website’ were household terms. His father, Milton Horowitz A’H, was a professional artist who also involved in advertising. This sparked interest in the advertising field for Horowitz. In 1986, he attended college and studied computer graphics. At the time, this was still a fairly new subject.

Horowitz began making websites and selling them to clients along with graphic designs he would make. He also began to tap into the online selling market via Ebay. It was around that time that Horowitz discovered Amazon and began following it’s lead. Horowitz went from studying their system to selling to them directly and then he began selling on their platforms.

“It just happened that over time with so many people coming to me for advice on Amazon, I started noticing I could really answer the questions,” remarked Horowitz on the start of his business, “That’s when I began focusing on direct consulting and live seminars.”

In the field of Amazon, Horowitz is completely self-taught. When a client comes to him for help he tries to understand their goals and needs.

“The key point is to understand your customer before you begin as their time is as important as yours,” Horowitz explained.

This is Horowitz’s only occupation and he takes it very seriously. He has happily lost count of the number of businesses he’s helped through consulting and teaching though his live seminars.

“I personally love to see success of businesses and knowing I helped them achieve this level of success, it makes me sincerely very happy for them. Helping others help themselves is both challenging and ultimately the most rewarding,” said Horowitz.

Although Horowitz has designed a few advertisements for himself, he’s never acted on publicizing them. He’s left a few flyers in synagogues but that’s about it. He’s been very lucky with the old fashioned tool that is word of mouth.

People that use his service are eager to share with their family, friends, and acquaintances about the good work that Horowitz does.

“I encourage all who think they have no time, no money, no purpose or direction to stop making the excuses and take the first step in getting started in the online selling world,” explained Horowitz of his motto, “Come to one of my seminars and get inspired!”

Here are some tips from Horowitz for anyone who may be thinking of starting up with Amazon.

Tip #1: Amazon buyers love to spend between $15 and $50 and often $19.99 is like the magic price point. If you can leverage your sales in this area (value of course has to be there) your sales will grow and your complaints will be less. And conversely, buyers under $15 will often complain more than they will at that higher cost level.

Tip #2: An average customer on Amazon is between 20 years old and 40 years old. This means that if you market items to that age range, your chance of success is even greater. Most make purchases on the go with their smartphones and in under 30 seconds. This concept is important to keep in mind when starting with Amazon.

Tip #3: FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon) will not only increase your exposure and business rankings, there are other added benefits that are often missed. You will have more free time to list your products, give Amazon the ability to handle your customer service, and best of all build a better trust with your customers as Amazon has their name on your shipping.
