First Kosher Culinary Center in US Opens in Brooklyn NY

Kosher Culinary Center (KCC) opened its doors on May 14 of this year in Brooklyn, NY. Perline Dayan, the co-founder and director of the center, dreamed of opening a kosher culinary school with friend Avram Wiseman and the two worked tirelessly for a year and a half to put their dream to fruition.

In the past few years there has been a revolution in the Kosher food industry and it’s creating tons of jobs. KCC gives students the skills and knowledge to compete in today’s burgeoning kosher food market. With their state of the art facility created to foster a love for cooking while adhering to the laws of Kashrut, KCC intends to give their students a leg up in their future careers within the industry. All appliances and every part of their facility pertains to a professional Kosher kitchen which is an integral part of the curriculum.

Cooking classes are set in a small and intimate atmosphere to enable maximum interaction between instructors and their students. The classes have a limit of fourteen students per class.

KCC is currently the only Kosher culinary school in the United States. The program spans throughout 54 days for each student and is extremely hands on in nature. The school is three stories tall and its facilities and equipment are all brand new as well. They offer morning classes five times a week and evening classes three nights a week. All students graduate with a certificate of completion in culinary arts and a certificate of completion in Kosher culinary arts.

If someone is not looking for a career in the culinary arts, but interested in taking a class at KCC, they have that covered. KCC has recreational classes to help you sharpen your skills and broaden your palate in a less committed way as well.

KCC offers a wide array of hands on culinary classes in which students cook, bake, and then, most importantly, eat what they make. Social date nights, cooking competitions, classes for families, teens, and kids, chocolate and pastry classes, and cooking demonstrations are all night class options as well at the KCC. Sushi night and knife skills are also fun options offered as one class programs to anyone interested in attending.

For New Years Eve, the Culinary Center will be hosting a special steak night in which participants will be able to butcher and cook their own steak. Not only that, but all who attend will be able to make their side dishes, bake their dessert, and enjoy it all with a champagne toast at midnight.

KCC also makes sure that each student who attends their program experiences the perks that come along with being an alumni immediately upon graduating. The Culinary Center places each student in a six week unpaid internship at various Kosher restaurants in the area. This is where they get real hands on experience in the field which is essential to anyone’s career. On top of that, if the graduate’s employer likes their work, they can get hired with a full time paid position as well.

Recently, a very important Kosher trade show took place in Jersey City called KosherFest. This is where many of the Kosher food industry bloggers, brands, chefs, super market buyers, and many more from within the industry come together each year to meet and bond over their passion for food.

During this three day festival, many cooking demonstrations took place. Jamie Geller from Joy of Kosher gave a demonstration in which students from the Kosher Culinary Center got the opportunity to participate and assist. KCC works closely with Elan from Great Kosher Restaurants Magazine to get their name out there as well. They’ve also put advertisements out in various publications like Five Towns Jewish Press, Mishpacha Magazine, Kosher Media, etc.
