(JNS) The Israeli Air Force struck three positions in the Gaza Strip belonging to the Palestinian terror group Hamas on Wednesday night in response to four rockets launched from the territory at the southern Israeli cities of Sderot and Eshkol.

“The State of Israel will not allow harm or any attempt to harm its civilians, and will continue to guard its sovereignty,” the IDF said in a statement. “The IDF holds the Hamas terror organization responsible for this situation and the poverty, destruction and despair amongst the citizens of the Gaza Strip.”

Wednesday marked the sixth consecutive night of rockets being launched into Israel from Hamas-ruled Gaza.

In its response, the Israeli military targeted Hamas training sites and weapons storage facilities. A Palestinian official stated that the sites targeted included a naval facility and a Hamas base in northern Gaza. The sites were reportedly significantly damaged by the Israeli strike.

Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system intercepted two of the rockets, while another missile exploded in an open area in Eshkol.

It was later discovered that one of the rockets launched from Gaza landed back in the territory and damaged a school run by the United Nations refugee agency UNRWA in Beit Hanoun.

A total of 16 rockets have been fired at Israel from Gaza since President Donald Trump’s Dec. 6 recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
