The DSN Summer Games

On Sunday Aug. 20, DSN hosted its seventh annual DSN Games. Basketball and Soccer were played at six different locations in the Deal area including the homes of community members as well as the main location at the DSN Beach Club.

The DSN Beach Club is located on Ocean Avenue in Deal, NJ and was acquired by the organization last Summer. The outdoor addition of the forever expanding community center is located next door to the Deal Casino and is made up of multiple basketball courts. The Beach Club is mainly used for many of the programs that are put together for our community’s youth by DSN as well as for the large variety of sporting tournaments that go on within our community throughout the Summer. One does not need to be a member of the DSN community center in order to attend the programs and events being held at the DSN Beach Club.

The DSN Games, particularly, was a day of sun and competition for over three hundred and sixty registered players. The games were played by 3rd to 11th graders in colorful team jerseys all Sunday morning. Official referees in black collared DSN shirts watched each and every game carefully to assure fairness and fun were had by all.

Each player paid a fee to participate. All proceeds from the DSN Games went to the DSN Children's Fund. The DSN Children’s Fund exists as a way for any and all children to be able to be a part of the amazing community center, no matter what their financial background may be. DSN prides itself on never turning a child away that can't afford to be a member or can't afford to participate in programs with their friends. This fund helps pay for those children to be a part of a great community center.

The basketball courts and soccer fields were packed with players while the sidelines were filled with siblings and parents spectating and cheering. Pizza and salads were served for the hungry players and attendees. Later on in the evening a barbecue went underway. Hydration stations were set up in the form buckets filled with ice, Gatorade, and water for players and spectators.

DSN prepared more than just games to be played that day as well. A giant blue blow up water slide towered over the side of the beach club. Parents and children, unprepared for the water activity, happily rode the slide in their clothing and had a great time. There was also face painting and a split the pot at the event as well. Overall, the event was definitely enjoyed by all who attended.
