(JNS.org) Following Norway’s demand that the Palestinian Authority return Norwegian state funding for a women’s youth center named after female Palestinian terrorist Dalal Mughrabi, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres withdrew the world body’s support for the facility over its “glorification of terrorism.”

“The United Nations disassociated itself from the center once it learned the offensive name chosen for it and will take measures to ensure that such incidents do not take place in the future,” said a statement from Stéphane Dujarric, a spokesman for Guterres.

“The glorification of terrorism, or the perpetrators of heinous terrorist acts, is unacceptable under any circumstances. The U.N. has repeatedly called for an end to incitement to violence and hatred as they present one of the obstacles to peace,” Dujarric added.

The statement followed similar comments by the U.N.’s deputy special coordinator for the Middle East peace process, Robert Piper, who said Sunday, “The name chosen by the community center is wrong and unacceptable.” Piper demanded the U.N. logo “be removed immediately” from the facility.

The center’s namesake, Mughrabi, orchestrated the 1978 Coastal Road massacre, which killed 37 Israelis—including 12 children. The massacre remains the deadliest terror attack in Israel’s history.
