On Wendsday, Aug. 23, Yam Hatorah held their Annual Summer Auction in the home of Charles and Lili Mizrahi. The auction was filled with beautiful packages that included an option of men's watches, jewelry for women, a baby package with a City Mini Jogger stroller and a baby rocker, and also a shabbat package with plates and flatware to win.

Nina Hazen of IC Jewelry was selling jewelry for women and children at the event and she also donated a package of her pieces for the auction. There were salads and wraps for purchase and pickups like sambusaks and bourekas for all. The main attraction however, was the lineup of events and speakers happening throughout the day.

First on the schedule was a group Tehillim reading for women. Next on the agenda, Janet Esses spoke about the preparations we must make for Elul, an appropriate topic since the event was held on Rosh Chodesh Elul. Renata Hara, a makeup artist, also gave a live demo with beauty tips and tricks for all who attended. And last but not least, Esther Khamri Cohen gave a women’s class which ended with another group Tehillim reading.

It was a beautiful day for community members to come together in Brooklyn and raise money for this esteemed Shul. Yam Hatorah is located on East 10th between avenues O and P in Brooklyn NY. It was established in 1992 and is currently under the guidance of Rabbi Isaac Mohadeb who is originally from Argentina.

In addition to being a synagogue, Yam Hatorah is a Kollel by day and night as well as a preschool. On a weekly basis, Thursday nights a few young men get sponsored to stay awake all night in the shul to learn Torah.

What sets this Shul apart is its bilingual Rabbi class options. With classes ranging from English, Spanish, Hebrew, and arabic for men as well as English and Spanish for women, there's enough to satiate a wide range of Torah loving Jews.

"We like to say that we are a cholent (stew) of a Shul, where everyone feels at home because we tailor it just for them,” said long time Shul administrator Barbara Rafoul.

With the amount of Torah and Tefillah that goes on around the clock at Yam Hatorah, there is no doubt they superseded their fundraising goal for the day.
