(December 10, 2018 / JNS) Iran has “significantly expanded” its missile testing, including a missile that can hit southeastern Europe, according to a report in a German daily newspaper on Sunday.

Die Welt reported that in 2018, the regime has conducted almost doubled the number of missile tests last year. This year’s missiles consist of seven medium-range and five short-range ones.

These tests apparently violate the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, which the United States withdrew from in May. They also allegedly violate U.N. Security Council Resolution 2231, which prohibits Iran from handling missiles.

This development comes as Iran recently tested a ballistic missile, to which U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo responded that it violated a specific U.N. Security Council resolution.

“As we have been warning for some time, Iran’s missile testing and missile proliferation [are] growing. We are accumulating risk of escalation in the region if we fail to restore deterrence,” said Pompeo. “We condemn these activities and call upon Iran to cease immediately all activities related to ballistic missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons.”
